How does a commercial ice maker work?

The working principle of commercial ice makers
1.The chilled water of the storage tank is continuously circulated by the pump through the plate or cell evaporator;
2.After the compressor runs, it is air-compressed-exhaust-condensation (liquefaction) -throttling - and then endothermic vaporization at a low temperature of -10 to -18 degrees in the evaporator. The frozen water in the water temperature of 0 degrees continuously condenses into ice on the surface of the cooler evaporator. When the ice condenses to a certain thickness, the evaporation temperature of the refrigerant reaches the set temperature of the temperature control, that is, the defrosting solenoid valve is often deiced in the form of a heat pump, and then the next cycle is realized.
Ice making cycle
Through the supplementary water valve, the water automatically enters a storage tank, and then through the flow control valve the water is pumped to the diverter head, where the water evenly sprayed onto the surface of the ice maker, like a water curtain flowing through the wall of the ice maker, the water is cooled to the freezing point, and the water that is not frozen by evaporation will flow through the porous tank into the storage tank and start the cycle again.
Ice harvesting cycle
When the ice reaches the required thickness (the thickness can be arbitrarily selected by the operator/user), the hot air discharged from the compressor is redirected back into the ice maker wall, replacing the low temperature liquid refrigerant.
This creates a film of water between the ice and the wall of the evaporation tube, which will lubricate the ice as it falls freely under gravity into the tank below.
The water produced during the ice harvesting cycle is returned to the storage tank through the porous tank, which also prevents the wet ice from being discharged by the machine.
Refrigerating machine condensation
Air-cooled, water-cooled or evaporative condensers are available.
The evaporative type is installed above the ice machine, the water-cooled condenser is installed under the ice machine or under the refrigeration system, and the air-cooled condenser can be installed together with the ice machine or installed outdoors according to the actual situation.
If needed, water-cooled condensers can be used on ships or off the coast, using seawater for cooling. Evaporative cooling can be used in high ambient air temperature, but from the point of view of efficiency and economy, it is not suitable for use in water-cooled or air-cooled refrigeration conditions.
